Pattern Maker's saw...

    These saws are seen on ebay and most people think they are much rarer than they are, since they look cool. Most are twisted and warped as it's a lousy design with no back, IMO. This is an old one, and the saw nuts.

    It has the exact same style of nuts as the Disston No 70 as well as the little 8" Bishop I have. Pics showing all 3.

    Hi Alan.

    Do you know why the handle is angled so high.

    A lack of a back I can see the reason for, but not being much of a saw user and definitely not a patternmaker, I cannot see much reason for it.

    What can this saw with this handle do, that others with more conventionally placed handles on a backless saw cannot.

    Not entirely sure. That is the way they are, if you look in the old catalogs they had the high angle handle like that.
    I'm not a patter maker either, but it must have something to do with how they cut the mold to push into the sand. Not sure to be honest.
    Not sure. It has the same saw nuts on it as the No. 70, AFAICT.
