Hello all, This is how this saw was described on Ebay ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s OPEN HANDLE TENON DOVETAIL BACK SAW R... I was not entirely convinced then and I am still not convinced now. Lets start off with what little there is in HSMOB. There are three Williams listed.. 1) Williams W Circa 1800 in Sheffield - Saw only and which makes this a dicey attribution in my book. 2) Williams Robert London 1807 3)Williams Brothers Sheffield 1879. I don't think that it is 1807 although I hope that it is (or thereabouts) and I hope that it is not 1879. It does, of course have cast(dot) and which should put it 1830 or pre that. But I have never seen a cast(dot) with the dot at the bottom of the "line" and not in the middle. The saw also has the rounded toe and which I associate with later saws. Neither do I like the arched "Williams" as an early style of mark. I am therefore once again confused. It could, of course be none of the above and be a brand - which could put the dating cat well and truly amongst the pigeons. Does anyone have any ideas. Fred
