    Such a lovely thing, with that thin elegant handle. Looks like it came out of some famous toolbox.

    An identically marked but even more sadly beat up saw like this was auctioned at the David Stanley sale a couple of days ago – in a box with half a dozen others... I thought it could date to about 1800, and is the oldest Groves saw I've seen. The picture almost disguises the crack in the plate near the toe (a not uncommon site to fracture – didn't Fred show one with this break recently?) IMG_6639.jpg
    Where did sweaders' saw appear? US or UK?

    Wow.... as David says "such lovely things". Same handle maker? That bevel is almost identical on both saws with that oh so delicious soft turn.
    I hope the auctioned saw has found a wonderful home Simon.
    Joe S.... who can't see enough early saws.
