Saw id help

    Another flea market find. The handle was sticking out of a pile of Disstons (like the famous sore thumb).

    The stamp could be Davenport. Below is probably cast or german steel.

    To the right of this is Sheffield and what could be an image of a crown (left).

    I'm afraid this is the best shot I could get. Any guess who made it and when?

    Hi Houblon, Looks like a Davenport, but which one? There are four or five of them all sawmakers at one time or another. John, James, Henry, John Alfred, Thomas. All working in Rockingham Street at various times.

    In the absence of an initial, I'd think it's likely to be John Davenport. (1821-1852) The mark looks a lot like one in BSSM page 221, which is dated to 1840
