I picked up a few saws at the local market today including this early 3 TPI rip saw by J Hill. The plate measures 23 1/2 inches, it has a bit missing from the toe and one of the split nuts has been replaced, its a shame about the damage and lack of plate depth as the saw is in really nice condition with a lovely smooth plate with nice patination.
It is very similar ( but had a much harder life) to a saw posted by Fred in an earlier thread in 2011, it seems at that time there was some doubt about the age of these saws as they look earlier but Simon suggested that they may date from 1880-90. I'd be interested to know if that is still the current thinking ?
    Regards
    Rob
