Any information on manufacturer and production dates for a 6 inch brass backed \"gentlemans\" saw stamped \"Hazeon London\" ?
[\"Hazeon\" doesn\'t seem to be on any sawmaker list, but it may be a product line from some other manufacturer, or the name of a supply merchant]

    Hi Kiwi,

This is one I can\'t track down, there was a \"Hazeon\" London based maker of Grinding Wheels and Grinding Wheel Troughs,
and I have seen Hazeon saws on ebay from time to time, always seem to be gentlemans saws.

My guess would be we are probably looking for a Merchant.

London, can be misleading since the word \"London\" was often used as a quality indicator rather than the place of manufacture.
In this case, I am thinking it is probably a London Based Merchant.

I\'ll keep looking and see what turns up.

Thanks for posting, great looking litle saw.

    Regards
    Ray

I'm very late coming to this one, but just to back up Ray's posting, here are some details I've found.
    HAZEON, Thomas LONDON
    10 Bishopsgate Avenue, EC <1905-1938>
    20 Strafford Avenue, Ealing W3 1949
Originally listed as hone, oilstone, grindstone, trough, emery wheel and tool basket manufacturers; it is likely that their City premises were destroyed by wartime bombing; 1949: grindstone manufacturers. Their small saws, which must have been factored for advertising purposes, are surprisingly common; no hand saws have been recorded. A gent’s saw probably from the 1930’s marked “Hazeon, Londonâ€￾ was sold at auction in 2009.

    Hi Simon,

Hazeon, is one of those odd ones, I hadn't thought of the possibility that they were made specifically for advertising, but that would explain why they seem only to be ever found as Gent's saws.

An American machinery company I did some contract work for back in the 1980's used to give all their customers/contractors specially made and branded tools at Christmas time, over the years, they had variously, tape measures, socket sets, torches and so on, all high quality, branded with their company name.

A bit like the corporate gifts pens (with company logo prominently displayed) that you see all the time, handed out by company salesmen.

I can imagine the Hazeon marketting manager having to explain why he blew his entire advertising budget on "Gent's saws"... maybe he was a woodworker...... :)
