    Hi Guys,

Recently got an F Constantine back saw. reasonable condition, 14\" long, nice london flat handle with clean split nuts.

Think it may date to around 1850 but interested to hear any info. Its marked \'F Constantine\' and second line \'Cast Steel\'

    Hi Steve,

First impressions.. Great looking saw, Sash Tenon
London Flat, no medallion, 3 screws, nicely detailed lambs tongue.

    Francis.Constantine 68 Hollis Croft 1845-1849,
The business continued at the same address with Henry and Charles Constantine as Constantine Bros up until at least 1909, The St Georges works.

It\'s possible that Henry and Charles would have continued using the \"F.Constantine\" mark after 1849, but if you had a saw marked \"Constantine Bros\" that would have to be after 1850.

I am going to opt for the 1845-1849 date range, saws made later in the 19th century, tended to have medallions (label screws) and dolphin or fishtailed pattern handles.

On balance the style suggests 1849 rather than later.

    Regards
    Ray
