I have had another box land here from the US ... and had wanted to ask here what this logo was ... but I could make it out once I looked at the photos. There are two more examples online with the word 'clipper' used .. one similar writing but a different logo ... anyone know anything about it? Thanks, Paul McGee

Hi Paul, Your saw looks somewhat similar to Shurly&Dietrich's No 6 "Clipper" saw, although there are differences in the shape of the handle side plate, and the illustrated etch wording shown around/below the ship is slightly different at "Cast Steel, Warranted" The No 6 Clipper saw is not shown in their c1915 catalog, so your saw may be pre 1915 if it is a Shurly-Dietrich seeToolerama.com for the 1902 S&D catalog at http://toolemera.com/Trade Catalogs/tradecatalogs190.html see p50 of 77 [I tried to clip and paste the Clipper saw here, but failed, sorry] Shurly & Dietrich were great innovators of new saw designs, but also prolific copiers of other Maker's designs (maybe they considered US patents didn't apply to them in Canada) so its possible they copied the whole "Clipper" idea from a Competitor south of the border.
Thanks very much Kiwi - I had never looked at that company before - although I have since seen that Toby referenced it a few months back at woodworkforums. It's quite amazing how much 'accidental imitation' - ok .. outright ripping off - was going on among these companies. The handle of my clipper looks a lot like the disston standard Toby posted here - but not the plate part: http://www.woodworkforums.com/f152/mystery-saw-need-help-id-151848/index3.html#post1483542 And the other clipper - with split nuts and four eagle WS medallions - was an auction here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/19076397...ksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true#ht_500wt_1203 Thanks, Paul
