Hey Ray et all. I had promised some pics of other saws that have been kicking around in the collection and this little one has always been a favourite. I don\'t see them on your list Ray but Erwin Schaffer and Don McConnell have them listed in the \"Hand-Saw Makers of Britain\" from Sheffield fairly early in the 19th century. This 7 inch brass backed saw(which wasn\'t cleaned by me) sports a 30 degree pitched beech open handle. There is a chip off the bottom heel. Two brass 7/16th split nuts hold the handle to a tapered blade. The toe measures at 1 1/4\" and gradually to 1 3/4\" at the heel. There is very little pitting on the blade. Teeth per inch run at about 17. The \"SHAW&MARSHALL\" name is embossed in a serrated (ZB)border as is the \"CAST.STEEL in a ZB border. I hope the pics are good enough and I will send more pics of a different saw very soon. Cheers Joe Steiner
Hi Joe, Wow, love that handle shape. Very sweet little saw. I haven\'t done any research on Shaw and Marshall & Co, but they are listed in Hand Saw Makers of Britain, and also appear on Simon Barley\'s list. Shaw, Marshall and Co Bridgehouses e/t mfrs 1797-1817 and 1823 as B; 1821 Newfield; 1825 -28 Oborne st I have checked the 1791 Universal and Gales & Martins 1787, and I can see entries for Joseph Shaw, I am struggling to confirm that 1797 date, although in Holden\'s 1805,6,7 still lists Joseph Shaw, and Jonathan Marshall separately? Jonathan Marshall is listed a steel refiner, while Joseph Shaw is listed as a tool maker, including saws. I will see what else turns up. Regards Ray
