I picked up this little back saw a few weeks back, it's marked Cotton and Johnson whom I'm guessing would be a tool retailer as they are not in BS&SM. It's a nice looking saw but the plate is completely shot.
I'd like to replate it but I haven't got any thin plate on my store of unsaveable saws to use. Can anyone point me in the direction of a saw plate supplier in the UK ?
The original plate is 0.020 inch thick.

That is gorgeous, it looks tiny perhaps smaller than 8", what a beautiful handle, thanks for posting it.

    Hi Rob,

I'm with Mari on this one, it's a very nice looking saw.

Sorry I can't point you to a UK supplier, but I can help with specifying what material you should be looking for. Spring steel shim is available in sheets up to 24" x 6" in the USA it's called 1095 spring steel, I think in the UK it's called CS95
I've previously purchased from these guys https://www.victornet.com/report/Spring-Steel/1306.html

A starting point for a UK search might be http://springsteelstock.co.uk/

If you do manage to track down a UK source, let us know.

    Regards
    Ray
