Robert Sorby Dovetail SawThis Robert Sorby dovetail saw has just been fitted with a new blade, the old one was buckled and resisted all attempts to straighten it. It is a great little saw and very comfortable to use. It is a good one to try out my new filing gauge.

Filing Guide OverviewThe basic principle has been around for a long time, I think I first saw it in Grimshaw, which was published in the late 19th Century.
I have made it longer and able to do multiple pitches.

Cross Section - End ViewCross section of filing guide. The 1/4 inch brass has been slotted and a strip of 20 thou brass shim silver soldered in to act as the guide that will rest in the gullet of the tooth.

|

Bottom View of Filing GuideThe brass shim is inlet at an angle to the edge, so that it is about 8 PPI at one end and 14 PPI at the far end.

Top View of Filing GuideTop view showing markings in PPI, the angle is quite shallow, so the exact positioning isn't all that critical. If you look carefully I have punched the 3 back to front on the 13 PPI mark....
