Step 1. Tapping the Handle for 3/8"Drill and tap to suit 3/8 brass threaded rod. Accuracy is not important, since we will be turning the handle concentric with the brass rod anyway.

Step 2 Rod Threaded and Glued into HandleThread rod into block and glue with epoxy or CA glue, not really needed, but why not.

Step 3. Setup In the LatheYou need a morse taper chuck that will fit your lathe, If you are lucky, the one off the drill press might fit.

Step 4. Turn the Handle as DesiredTurn the handle, (there is a live centre in the tailstock BTW) make the face that will contact the frame flat and square.

Step 5. Filing the threads Use a flat file and work along, until the threads just dissapear. This one I made parallel, the next one I will taper the thickness so that later when it is in the frame it locks up and doesn't turn (when you don't want it to).

Step 6. Cutting To LengthHacksaw at the correct length, If you make the handles BEFORE you make the frame, you can always adjust the length of the stretcher to suit standard sized blades, If you are making you own blades, just cut about 1" longer than the frame thickness.

Step 7. Clean up end on Disk SanderSquare off end on the disk sander, a file would do just as well of course...

Step 8. Clamp and Mark for Blade SlotClamp and Mark for the blade slot. Try to mark as accurately as possible.

Step 9. Cutting Blade SlotCut the slot with a hacksaw, and clean up burrs with wet and dry.

Step 10. FinishRound the end and polish, the Sheoak handle is finished with shellac and wax.
